CoVet and ABVTA Partner to Bring Practical AI Support to Alberta’s Veterinary Technologists

New member benefit provides access, education, and workflow support tailored to technologist roles across Alberta

CoVet has announced a new partnership with the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA), the provincial professional association representing Registered Veterinary Technologists and  VT student members across Alberta. Through this member benefit partnership, ABVTA technologists will receive access to CoVet’s Support account, along with dedicated education on how AI can be applied in real technologist workflows. The initiative is designed to expand access to practical tools that support documentation, triage, follow-up, and client communication within veterinary practices.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to addressing workflow strain and administrative burden in veterinary medicine by equipping technologists with tools that enhance efficiency while supporting clinical teams.

“Veterinary technologists are central to how care is delivered, yet they are often overlooked in how technology is introduced into clinics. This partnership with ABVTA is about meeting technologists where they are, giving them access to tools they can use today, and supporting them with the education needed to apply AI responsibly and effectively in their workflows,” said Yannick Bloem.

“This partnership gives our members access to practical tools and education that directly support their day-to-day responsibilities. It reflects our commitment to helping technologists work more efficiently while maintaining the high standards of care our profession is known for,” said Vanessa George, Executive Director of ABVTA.

The partnership will be rolled out in Alberta, particularly in practices where technologists collaborate with doctors already using CoVet. In the short term, the initiative is expected to increase awareness among ABVTA members that technologists can benefit from CoVet through the Support account, while driving engagement through webinar-based AI education. It also creates opportunities for greater adoption within existing CoVet clinics by extending usage beyond doctor-focused workflows.

Over the long term, the partnership aims to support broader technologist workflow adoption, improve documentation efficiency, and enhance overall member satisfaction. For ABVTA, this represents a differentiated member benefit and a pathway to deliver meaningful, practical education. For CoVet, it establishes a strong connection to Alberta’s technologist community, enabling deeper insight into real-world technologist use and informing future development of technologist-focused solutions.

By focusing on technologist-centered adoption, the partnership helps close the gap between increasing administrative demands and the underutilization of accessible tools that can support veterinary teams today.

Why Clinical Excellence Must Be Built Into Veterinary AI

August 14, 2026·10 minutes

Clinical excellence in veterinary AI requires more than having veterinarians endorse a product. Veterinary professionals should influence product requirements, templates, testing, quality review, localization, implementation, support, and education. CoVet uses an in-house Medical Department led by Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Mike Mossop, alongside DVMs, RVTs, specialty advisors, and other team members with veterinary-practice experience to keep clinical workflows connected to product development.
